Did You Know?
As a land developer or general contractor in Georgia you are most likely required to work under TWO permits if your land disturbance is greater than one acre?
Sediment is our nations number one non-point source pollutant!
That means that you, as a land developer, are now working under the requirements of the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Act and the federal stormwater NPDES regulations. As such, you now are required to apply for government permission through a Notice of Intent (NOI) to discharge storm water associated with construction activity.
This is how it works
You apply for a local municipal permit called a Land Disturbance Permit (more officially known as a Land Disturbing Activity or LDA Permit). Statistics show, at this stage, that most small land developers have probably not applied for the other required permit called the General Permit by filing the Notice of Intent (NOI). The NPDES General Permit is a federal permit written and enforced by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
Please note: The old NPDES General Permit expired July 31, 2008. The NOI and NOT forms are all new as well with very significant changes included. The new NPDES Gneral Permit was signed into law on August 1, 2008. Please visit the Georgia EPD information page below which addresses all these new changes and includes a fact sheet that summarizes it all in and easy-to-read and understand format:

Following the requirements described in the NPDES General Permit are simple. Its just that individuals are either unaware or afraid of what it takes to be in compliance. Most people want to protect our environment and that just happens to be what the NPDES stormwater discharge permit is all about. Do not listen to the scare tactics of some consultants trying to make a business out of your fears. Depending on the size of your site, its simply not that difficult for you to do your own compliance inspections and water sampling! We'll even provide the turbidimeter and sampling equipment so you can perform your own monitoring and inspections.
GeoLOGIC is now a proud distributor of APS, Inc.
GeoLOGIC is now a proud distributor of APS, Inc. soil stabilization and water purification polymers! Applied Polymer Systems is the only company in the world that manufactures these specific types of erosion control and water clarification products. Also, APS products are tested by universities, water management districts and Department of Transportation groups who have proven them to work, and also be safe for the environment.
Silt Stop emulsion or powder products and Floc Log gel blocks are specifically tailored for your soil type and water chemistry. These products help alleviate erosion while encouraging the growth of vegetation. You simply call GeoLOGIC and we will either provide the sampling for you or assist you to perform your own sampling and sample shipment to the APS Laboratory for a no-cost sample analysis. A polymer based on your specific soil type will be developed for your site.
Georgia Erosion and Sediment Control Certification Training and Stormwater Consulting is what we do.
